2023 Announcements

January 10, 2023

Dear Members:

The World Mental Health Coalition (WMHC) has not gone away. We have a new executive board represented by professionals from around the country. Dr. Bandy Lee, to whom we owe so much gratitude for her dedication and commitment to the WMHC, remains involved and has recently started a Substack titled The Newsletter of Dr. Bandy X. Lee.  As she writes in her newsletter, “For the last seven years, she has endeavored to educate the American public about our race toward violence and how we can prevent it”. The “contagion” that she and others so aptly described has spread to Brazil with an almost identical attempt at a coup by former President Bolsanaro. Please consider subscribing substack.com/profile/26700160-bandy-x-lee today.

The WMHC executive board is dedicated to growing what Dr. Lee started. While the “twice impeached ex-President” is singularly less relevant, we remain focused on addressing his negative impact on societal and global mental health. The executive board is in the process of expanding and our short-term goals which focus on updating our membership with our new board members and mission statement, updating our website, fundraising activities we are planning, an effort towards global outreach, a Town Hall in February and other efforts to involve our members.

We are proud to open begin by sharing an upcoming event sponsored by Dr. Guerda Nicolas in Ayiti (Haiti), a recent addition to the WMHC executive board. Dr. Kevin Washington (Mwata Kairi), our own WMHC President will be presenting at the Psychology Summit for Peace on January 13th and 14th. The summit will be broadcast live from Cap Haïten, Haïtia. With a virtual option, our members can attend this event. We hope many of our members will attend and ask that current members share this information with colleagues, academic institutions, social media accounts and professional organizations. Please stay tuned. We are energized and enthusiastic about the future impact of the of the WMHC.

Sincerely,

Kevin Washington, Ph.D., President,
Susan Cortilet Jones, NYS LMHC, Vice President and Dr. Guerda Nicolas
